Construction on the Bay Harbor Trail was completed in the summer of 2009.  Diamond Concrete of Spirit Lake was the successful bidder for the grading and paving portion of this project and included approximately 9100 square yards of 5" PCC trail and a steel bridge structure.

Also included with this project was a separate contract for installing storm sewer and two tunnels under Highway #86.  The contractor for this portion was Peterson Contractors Inc of Reinbeck, Iowa.  The installation of the tunnels required closing of Highway #86 for a few days.  

Funds for the Bay Harbor Trail were all privately donated.

The next leg of the trails to be constructed on the west side of West Okoboji Lake is the Garlock Slough Trail which will be constructed during 2010.  This trail project received a grant of over $490,000 from the Iowa Recreational Trails Program.  The City of West Okoboji and the DCTB will both contribute the remaining funds needed to build the estimated $700,000+ trail.
