Bedell Performing Arts Center
Currently nearing completion, this auditorium will be a 1,000-seat state-of-the-art facility and will feature one of Elton John's pianos, a red baby grand. This project was possible through a large donation from the Bedell family and is named after Tom Bedell's daughter who was in the performing arts while in high school. JW&A was retained by Rozeboom Miller Architects of Minneapolis, MN to prepare plans & specifications for grading, drainage and parking lot paving. Christensen Construction of Estherville, Iowa was the general contractor. Also related to this project was design of an LID (low impact development) drainage area between the performing arts center and the ballfield. Jeffrey Rose, P.E., of JW&A worked with Matthew Fair Jones, landscape architect, of Minneapolis, MN, to design a bioretention cell which is defined as a shallow, landscaped depression that can handle large volumes of water from extensive impervious surfaces found in highly-developed areas and then eventually sends the water to streams, rivers or lakes through biothermal wells just under the surface of the ground. Below are pictures of this LID area at the Spirit Lake High School...
