Lake Park Street Project
Iowa's "Best" PCC Paving Project for 2002!

A 40-block street replacement project was completed in 2002.  The $1.3 million project greatly enhanced the look of the town.  The project involved pavement removal with concrete replacement.  The 40 blocks amounts to around one-fourth of the entire town, so it was a tremendous undertaking by the City.  The project consisted of nearly 12,000 square yards of pavement removal, 47,500 square yards of 6 and 7 inch PCC paving, 12,000 cubic yards of excavation, 500 square feet of 4 inch sidewalk removal and replacement, 4300 lineal feet of various sized storm sewer pipe and road culverts, 41 intakes and manholes, etc.  Allied Construction of Charles City was the general contractor.  The project was funded through property assessments (50%) and the City's share was funded by selling general obligation bonds.

The engineer's estimate on this project was nearly $1.7 million, but a good share of our projects have been going for 75-80 percent of the estimate.  This saved the City and property owners nearly $400,000.  This is due in part by our cost-efficient designs and contractors' respect for our designs. JW&A's services on this project included preliminary survey, preliminary report, preliminary & final design, contract administration, construction staking, inspection, preparation of property assessment schedules, etc.

This project was awarded Iowa's "Best" PCC Paving Project in the Municipal Streets & Intersections division for 2002.  See "What's New" for story and picture.
