CIVIL ENGINEER


Jacobson-Westergard & Associates is a trusted leader in delivering high-quality civil engineering projects. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Civil Engineer to join our dedicated team of professionals. The position will focus primarily on public and private municipal projects including but not limited to streets, utilities (water, stormwater, sanitary sewer), trails, site development, subdivisions, low impact development (LID), and more. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, dependable, detail oriented, technically proficient, and a team player.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee projects from start to finish
  • Review and develop project proposals and plans
  • Client communication
  • Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and assign personnel appropriately
  • Develop project plans and specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; complete technical studies; prepare cost estimates
  • Determine and maintain project schedules
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts
  • Maintain company reputation and safe and clean working environment by enforcing and complying with federal and state regulations and rules; obtaining all required permits.
  • Confirm product performance by conducting on-site inspections as needed.
  • Contribute to business development / marketing


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related program from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed professional engineer in the state of Iowa, or the ability to become licensed in the next 12 months
  • 5+ years experience in civil engineering preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of design software AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar
  • Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals, etc.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Project management and supervision skills
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Graduate Drainage Engineer

We are seeking a Graduate Drainage Engineer to join our team, dedicated to enhancing agricultural productivity through the effective design and implementation of drainage systems. The position will focus primarily on public and private agricultural drainage projects, including but not limited to drainage district tile main improvements, open ditch repairs and improvements, annexation and reclassification, wetlands, and more. This position will require collaboration with farmers, County Boards of Supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure that all drainage solutions are tailored to meet the specific needs of the land and its use. As a Graduate Drainage Engineer, you will utilize advanced software tools, engage in field assessments, and develop innovative solutions that adhere to regulatory standards and best practices in drainage engineering. Your contributions will not only support agricultural advancements but also promote environmental stewardship and resilience within our farming communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement agricultural drainage systems tailored to specific land needs.
  • Conduct field assessments and hydrological studies to inform drainage solutions.
  • Collaborate with farmers and landowners to address drainage challenges and requirements.
  • Analyze soil properties and topography to optimize drainage plans.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for drainage projects.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices in drainage management.
  • Provide technical guidance and support during the construction and implementation of drainage systems.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering or related program from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong understanding of hydrology, soil science, and environmental impact.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and hydrological modeling tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
